GOOD / BAD

I almost wrote BEST / WORST as the title for this post but I have gone only one third of the way so that would be very presumptuous.

Good: the 'Danube bend' with the first bike path so far, beautiful scenery, city Esztergom with enormous basilica (climbed up in the cupola, not for the height-challenged) and partying with fellow bicyclist Luca and many new local friends at artsy bar Kaleidoskop, dancing to sounds of the electronic gypsy DJ with violin player.

Bad: horizontal rain, potholes becoming invisible when filled with water, full waterfall-style showers as cars pass through deep puddles, industrial areas with heavy-traffic, riding on freeway with 'bicycles not allowed' sign for many hours, extreme headwind for 90 kilometers.

But after rain comes sunshine. I arrive in Györ as the sun breaks through and set up camp at the little City Camping (see next post). Györ has great architecture and funky bars, it is stylish and has flair. It reminds of Breda and I like it. I meet local bicycle activist Kristophe and his lovely Veronica for a night of fröccs and shots of sparkling vodka and strawberry syrup. Good!

Next morning my head feels a little... bad.

  3. Hopefully this was the "bad" and "worst" won't happen. So I think that means "best" is yet to come! Found Gyor on my Nat Geog map so was able to underline another stop on the B to A journey. Love to you...
